Beaver Flat Campground Alberta
Kananaskis Country.
Beaver Flat campground is located in the
Rocky Mountains Kananaskis country,
35 minutes west of Calgary and
6.5km
East of
Paddy's Flat
campground.
The campground has 54 well treed
large Campsites
available on a first come first
serve basis, 7 of these are walk in
tent sites that are located along
the Elbow River, very nice. This
campground fills fast on weekends
due to it's close proximity to the
City of Calgary. There is an
interpretive trail, dry toilets and water. Dry firewood is
available here for a fee.
This is
Bear country,
food and food related items must be
stored properly. There
are several easy to moderate hikes
located near here. Beaver Flat
interpretive trail next to the
campground is a short walk along the
the local beaver ponds and dams.
Powder Face
Ridge is a short and easy
2 hour hike that offers a classic
transitional view of prairies to
mountains with the city of Calgary
just visible on the Eastern horizon.
Moose Mountain,
Prairie
Mountain and
Forget Me Not
Ridge are also easy to
moderate 3.5 hour hikes.
Nihahi Ridge,
starting at the West end of the
nearby
Little Elbow campground offers
exceptional views of Mount Glasgow
and Mount Romulus, allow 3 hours
return. You can also bring a
mountain bike and ride it around the
Elbow Loop.
The
Elbow Loop
offers beautiful views of Mount
Glasgow, Mount Cornwall, Outlaw and
Banded Peaks, Mount Romulus and
Mount Tombstone. Allow 6 to 8 hours
to complete the
loop
on bike. There are also nice easy
walks on groomed trails along the
Elbow River. There is a lot to explore
here.
Forgetmenot
Pond day use picnic area
located a few
Km's
West
is a short get away from Calgary and makes for a nice days outing.
Several picnic tables can be found
here and the pond is stocked with
Rainbow Trout. You'll need a
fishing
license to try out your luck.
Elbow Falls
is also located a few
Km's
East of here.
