Brazeau Reservoir Campground West Canal Provincial

Area.
Brazeau Reservoir West Canal Campground is located
approximately
236km
Southwest of
Edmonton,
6km
East of the main
Brazeau
Reservoir Campground.
There are 18 campsites
located next to the West Canal of
Brazeau Reservoir. Each site has
a picnic
table and fire pit. Some of
the sites are located on or near the
reservoir and close enough to keep a
boat next to. This campground offers dry toilets,
hand water pump, refuse containers,
fire wood, good boat
launch and fish cleaning stations.
There is also a nice nature trail
leading to lookouts with several interpretive signs that
explain the local wildlife and
vegetation. West Canal is the nicest
of the three Brazeau Reservoir
campgrounds however you'll have to
drive over
6km
of gravel road. Brazeau Reservoir
is
excellent for power boating,
canoeing, kayaking and fishing. Be
careful with a power boat, there are
a few shallow spots and floating
debris can be a real hazard here. The reservoir
is man made for hydroelectricity and is approximately
10km
long with the dam on the Northeast
end. Bird watching can be very good
as the reservoir attracts several
different bird species. The reservoir
holds Trout, Char, Grayling and
Whitefish, you'll need a
fishing
license to try out your
luck. There is a pond next to the
road leading into the campground
that is stocked with Rainbow trout. Night skies here
rank # 2 on the
Bortle Scale.
The road
leading to the campground is
approximately
6km
of gravel.
The
East Canal and
Main Reservoir
campgrounds are located within a few
km's
of here.
This is
Bear country,
food and food related items must be
stored properly.
