Chrystina Lake Campground Provincial
Recreation Area.
Chrystina Lake campground is located approximately
19km
North East of the Town of
Swan Hills
and approximately
320km
North
West of the City of
Edmonton.
Access is
12km
of gravel road. As you drive into
Chrystina Lake Campground you'll
pass by the world class
Swan Hills
Hazardous Waste Treatment Plant.
This enormous facility is located
2km
from the campground. There are
approximately 10 campsites for both tents and larger
RV's, fire wood, picnic
tables, dry toilets, small water
craft boat launch, canoeing and
kayaking. There is not much
information regarding this
campground or the lake and I get the
feeling there may be a reason. I did
see a few fish jump but lost all
interest in this area after reading
a
2004
government Health and Wellness
report saying the Brook
Trout contained Mercury. Being so
close to the
Swan Hills
Hazardous Waste Treatment Plant
certainly makes this area
unattractive and makes me wonder why
the campground was left open.
Chrystina Lake is not to be confused
with another Alberta lake similarly
named
Christina Lake.
I could not reach nearby Edith
Lake
Campground due to the gravel road
condition.
This is
Bear country,
food and food related items must be
stored properly.
See the official web site
link below for fees, opening and closing
dates.
