Crimson
Lake Campground Provincial Park Recreation
Area.
Crimson
Lake Campground is located
14km
Northwest of
Rocky Mountain
House.
An equal distance of
3 hours
from both
Calgary
and
Edmonton.
There are 172 campsites with picnic
tables and fire pits. Most of the
sites are surrounded by Aspen and
Spruce tress that provide some
privacy. This campground offers water,
toilets, showers, power, sani dump,
information kiosk, wheelchair
accessible camp sites, small store,
amphitheatres, playground,
volleyball, boat launch, beach with
a designated swimming area, refuse containers,
fish cleaning stations,
fire wood and community kitchens.
Crimson Lake is
excellent for power boating, water
skiing, canoeing, kayaking and sailing.
There are also several hiking and
mountain bike trails located here.
The lake is
1.9 km
long with a maximum width of
1.7km,
maximum depth is
9.1m
. There are several private cottages
located on the Southwest shores of
the lake. Expect the lake and boat
traffic to be busy on hot weekends.
I was told the fishing at Crimson
Lake is poor. If you prefer to go
fishing on a quieter more peaceful
lake you can drive a few minutes
away to nearby
Twin Lakes,
you'll need a
fishing
license
to try out your luck. Children will like it here,
they can swim, play on the beach or
playground then visit the small
store for ice cream. The nearby town
of
Rocky Mountain
House has all the
amenities one would need and there
is an interesting
museum
located there. Night skies here
rank # 4 on the
Bortle Scale
and the road
leading to the campground is paved.
The
Twin Lakes
Campground is located
approximately
6km Southeast
of Crimson Lake.
This is
Bear country,
food and food related items must be
stored properly.
See the official web site
link below for fees, opening and closing
dates.
