11km
of very dusty gravel road to
access this beautiful park. There are

available by calling 1-780-537-2757. This
campground offers campsites for both
tents and larger RV's, group

and wildlife watching.
The camp sites are well treed and

in the surrounding
Boreal Forest.
Some of the campsites back onto
Steele Lake. Cross Lake
has been renamed Steele Lake after
John Steele a world war one veteran.
Steele Lake offers good Northern Pike and Yellow
Perch fishing, you'll need a
fishing
license to try your luck.
Steele Lake is perfect for canoeing,
kayaking and smaller motorized water
craft. Lots to explore here on the
water. There are several
12km
per hour boat restrictions located
on the the lake. Larger power boats
and water skiing is allowed in
certain areas. Boaters will find an
easy to use boat launch but it is a
bit shallow for larger boats. Steele
Lake
has an approximate total surface
area of
6.6km with an
average depth of
3.2m,
maximum depth of
6.1m.
During the summer months the lake turns green with algae
that looks exactly like green paint. There are
several good hiking and mountain biking
trails located in the area that are
well worth the effort. Cross Lake Provincial Park also
attracts a large variety of birdlife
and there is a bird viewing platform for birders. Night skies here
rank # 3 on
the
Bortle Scale.
This is
Bear country,
food and food related items must be
stored properly.
