Etherington Creek Campground Alberta Recreational
Area.
The
Etherington Creek campground is
located on gravel road 54A in the
Highwood area
4.8km
south of the Kananaskis Trail
highway and is
8km
north of the
Cataract Creek
Campground,
130km
from the city of
Calgary. This
campground offers 60 campsites for
both tents and larger RV's, dry
toilets, water pumps, garbage bins,
picnic tables and fire pits. Dry
firewood is available here for sale
in small bundles. The campground
also has a group camp and
equestrian area with several spots
including hitching posts for horses.
Etherington Creek runs crystal clear
and is home to wild
Cutthroat
Trout. You'll need a
fishing
license to try your luck,
check your fishing regulations for catch and
release. With good eyes you can see
the Strawberry Ridge fire lookout to
the south.
The 1st ridge
to the west is a easy half day hike.
If you like to mountain bike, this
campground is a perfect base camp.
There are several old logging roads
that follow the valley bottoms and
offer spectacular views and access
to the great divide. Deer, Elk and
Bighorn Sheep
are all around this area. Night skies here are ink black
(#2 on the
Bortle Scale).
There is a gas station located at
the Kananaskis Trail highway turn
off that has a small store, gas,
diesel, limited grocery,
sani dump and water.
Strawberry
Equestrian Campground is
also located a few
km's
north west of here.

Cirque Hike, Running Rain
Lake Hike, Mist Ridge Hike and

bear country,
food and food related items must be
stored properly.
