Gleniffer Reservoir Dickson Dam Campground
Provincial Recreation
Area.
Dickson Dam Campground is located
24km
west of Innisfail.
Approximately 2 hours northwest of
the city of
Calgary
and 3 hours southwest of
the city of
Edmonton.
There are 30 campsites with picnic
tables and fire pits. All the sites
are located on an open grassy area
with a few next to the Gleniffer
Reservoir. This campground has a
hand water pump, dry
toilets,
fire wood, fish cleaning station and
a boat launch. Gleniffer reservoir is
excellent for power boating, water
skiing, canoeing, kayaking, sailing
and especially wind surfing. The reservoir was created
for hydroelectric power and is
approximately
7km
long with a maximum width of
2km.
The
Dickson Dam
is located on the east end of the
lake. The reservoir offers good
fishing for northern Pike, Walleye,
Whitefish and the odd Brown Trout.
Fishing below the Dam on the Red
Deer River can be good also. You'll need a
fishing
license to try out your
luck. The grassy area next to the
Lake is excellent for astronomers
and star gazers. Night skies here
rank # 4 on the
Bortle Scale
and the road
leading to the campground is paved.
Red Lodge
Campground is
approximately
25km
south of here.
