Livingstone Falls Alberta Recreational
Area.
The
Livingstone Falls campground is
located on gravel range road 42A in the
Highwood area
41.8km
south of the Kananaskis Trail
highway.
Etherington
Creek and
Cataract Creek
Campgrounds are located
approximately
28km
before Livingstone Falls. This
campground offers 22 campsites for
both tents and larger RV's, dry
toilets, water pumps, camp kitchen, garbage bins,
picnic tables and fire pits. Firewood is available here for sale.
The Livingstone River runs alongside
the campground with the small Falls
nearby. Unfortunately the access to
this campground is by a dusty gravel
41.8km
road. I'm sure this is why you will
find very few people here, maybe a
plus for others. You will pass a few
large
Inukshuks
on the way, these were placed by
local oil companies operating in the
area. There is some interesting
local geology here. The Livingstone
River runs inside a long smooth rock
face. This rock face has been eroded
to a smooth finish. You'll see a
small sample for geological study
that has been cut away by a rock
saw, see picture below. The numerous
pools below the falls are beautiful
and would make great swimming holes
on hot summer days. Deer, Elk and
Bighorn Sheep
are all around this area. Night skies here are ink black
(#1 on the
Bortle Scale).
There is a gas station located at
the Kananaskis Trail highway turn
off that has a small store, fuel,
sani dump and water hose.
This is
bear country,
food and food related items must be
stored properly.
See the official web site
link below for fees, opening and closing
dates.
