Miquelon Lake Campground Alberta Provincial
Park.
The
Miquelon Lake campground is located on
the south shore of Miquelon Lake approximately
65km
south east of the City of
Edmonton. There are
276 sites with reservations
available by calling 1-877-537-2757. This
campground offers campsites for both
tents and larger RV's, nice group
camping, handicap spots, clean sandy beach, picnic shelters,
picnic tables, public
phone, showers, water,
fire wood, sani dump,
swimming areas, play grounds, hand
boat launch for canoes and small
water craft.
Miquelon Lake is to shallow for
motor boats so no annoying boat
noise. A private golf course is also located nearby.
I did see a small fish jump but was
told that game fish are no longer
present in the lake. The lake is
good for swimming as the high
salinity makes the water very clear
and keeps the algae down.
This campground
is excellent for families with young
children, the kids can spend hours
on the beach and nearby playgrounds.
There are both open camp sites on well
kept grass and treed sites located
in the surrounding
Boreal Forest.
Miquelon Lake Campground is well
maintained and it has several hiking
trails that wind through the
Aspen Parkland
and
Boreal Forest
along with several marshes that are
a summer home to over 200 bird species. This
park is another bird watchers
paradise and a breeding ground for
two Gull species. It was once
designated as a bird sanctuary. There are
excellent view points with floating docks that
can be found on a Marsh next to the
campground. Due to it's
close proximity to
Edmonton
it fills fast on weekends.
Night skies ranks # 5 on
the
Bortle Scale. This is
bear country,
food and food related items must be
stored properly.
See the official web site
link below for fees, opening and closing
dates.
