Point Campground Upper Kananaskis
Lake Peter Lougheed Provincial Park.
(Back Country Hike In Campsite)
The
Point campground trail
head is located
in Peter Lougheed Provincial Park at the West
Upper
Kananaskis Lake parking
lot near the inflow of the
Kananaskis River.
There are 20 campsites that are
available. The hike to the
campground is approximately
3km,
1.25 hour easy hike
along the West shore of the
Upper
Kananaskis Lake. The
views along the trail are beautiful
especially the rock slide off Mount
Indefatigable. The trail continues
on around the
Upper
Kananaskis Lake and
branches off to the South Kananaskis
Pass or further along to Aster Lake
and
Fossil Falls. At the campground
you'll find firewood, hopefully an
axe, fire pits, picnic tables, tent
pads, food storage lockers, food
storage poles and outhouses.
This is
Bear country,
food and food related items must be
stored properly.
Backcountry camping permits can be
purchased in person at the Peter
Lougheed Park, Barrier Lake and
Elbow Valley visitor information
centres. The
Upper
Kananaskis Lake and the
Kananaskis River are a short walk
away. Trail heads to
Rawson
Lake,
Hidden Lake, Astor Lake and
Three Isle Lake are located near
here.
Canoeing to this Campground on a calm
summers evening would be an
unforgettable experience. There are
Rainbow Trout,
Cutthroat
Trout and Bull Trout in
lake. You'll need a
fishing
license to try out your
luck.
Boulton Creek campground,
Lower Lake
Campground,
Canyon Creek campground,
Elkwood
campground and
Mount Sarrail
campground are all located near
here.
See the official web site
link below for fees, opening and closing
dates.
