Sheep
Creek Campground
Alberta Provincial Recreation Area
The
Sheep Creek campground is located
approximately
28km
North of the Town of
Grande Cache
and approximately
172km
North West of the Town of
Hinton.
There are a total of 9 sites for
both tents and larger RV's, fire
wood, picnic tables, water and a dry
toilet.
The Smoky River flows along side the
campground and offers good fishing
for Rainbow Trout, Bull Trout and
Rocky Mountain Whitefish, you'll need a
fishing
license to try your luck.
White water rafting trips are often
taken on this stretch of the Smoky
River. This area is also good for
ATV's and snowmobiles. When driving
north of
Grande Cache
you'll notice a large coal mining
operation along the West side of the
highway. It's interesting to note
that near the
entrance to the campground the power
lines were moved as they were
originally placed over the top of a
native childs gravesite. See plaque
picture below for details.
Pierre Grey's
Campground is located
60km
South of here. Night skies here
rank #4 on
the
Bortle Scale.
This is
Bear country,
food and food related items must be
stored properly.
See the official web site
link below for fees, opening and closing
dates.
