Tunnel Mountain Campground Banff National
Park.
The
Tunnel Mountain RV and Tent
Campground is located in the Rocky
Mountains near the East end of the
Banff
Town site. There are three
separate campgrounds, one is open all year
round and has a (188 RV sites). The RV sites have
electricity, and picnic
tables. Fire wood is available for
use in the camp kitchens and tent
sites. Also available are, hot
showers, flush toilets, disability
access, sani dumps and interpretive
programs. The Tents only campground
offers fire pits, flush toilets, hot
showers, disability access and
interpretive programs.
This is
Bear country,
food and food related items must be
stored properly. During
peak season two adjoining
campgrounds are opened, totaling
over 1000 sites, expect crowds of
people. Most of these sites are
fully serviced with power, water and
sewer hookups. This campground makes
a perfect base camp if you want to
spend a few days exploring
Banff
or it's your 1st day out from
Calgary,
Canada. Campground is located within
1.25 hours from Calgary and minutes
to the
Banff
Town site. There is a public transit
system offering 5 minute bus rides
to
Banff
for a few dollars. The bus stops right in
the campground every hour during the
day and
is very convenient if you have an RV that you don't want to pack
up or have to park. The Banff town
site is very small, you can easily
walk through the entire town in a
morning or afternoon outing. More on
Banff here.
There are a few small hikes located
near this campground and a
3.5K
trail leading into
Banff.
A nice evening walk to the
Hoodoos
along the Bow Valley offers
outstanding views of
Mt. Rundle's
North Face and the Bow
River below, it is well worth the
effort. The trail is nicely groomed
but very crowded. If you want to get
away from the crowds you can take a
short drive to
Lake
Minnewanka and hike the
West side trail. This trail loops
around the shores of
Lake
Minnewanka all the way to
it's North East end
30K
away. This
trail offers some beautiful views of
the Lake itself and the surrounding
mountains. A much shorter hike to
Stewart Canyon can be found off
the start of this trail.
Two Jake
Lakeside campground is
also located nearby.
See the official web site
link below for fees, opening and closing
dates.
