Twin
Lakes Campground Provincial Park Recreation
Area.
Twin
Lakes Campground is located
8km
northwest of
Rocky Mountain
House.
Equal distance
3 hours
from both
Calgary
and
Edmonton.
There are 39 campsites with picnic
tables and fire pits. Some of the
sites are surrounded by Aspen
and Spruce tress that provide some
privacy but most of the central
sites are open to one another. This campground
has a hand water pump, dry
toilets, firewood, playground, boat launch, fish
cleaning station and a few very nice
fishing or wildlife viewing docks.
There are several wooden walkways
that have been constructed alongside
the lake and marsh areas. One of the
nicest wooden walkway's I have seen
is located here and is over
150m
long. This walkway has been built over the
surrounding marsh and leads toward a
small island that has viewing
benches and a dock. If
the wooden walkway is wet be
careful. When wet, I'm sure it
becomes the most slippery surface on
earth. I did a complete head spin
and fell into the marsh when taking a
photo of one of the Wildflowers
shown below. That was the end of my
camera but thankfully it's memory
chip survived. Onlookers were very
amused. The lake is perfect for
canoeing, kayaking, float tubing and
small water craft. The electric
motors only restriction keeps the
lake in pristine condition. Twin
Lakes is stocked with Rainbow Trout
and offers good fly fishing. You'll
need a
fishing
license
to try out your luck. The docks that
are located on the lake are good spots to fish from a lawn
chair or viewing the local wildlife.
The nearby town of
Rocky Mountain
House has all the
amenities one would need and there
is an interesting
museum
located there. Night skies here
rank # 4 on the
Bortle Scale
and the road
leading to the campground is paved.
The
Crimson Lake
Campground is located
approximately
6km northwest
of here.
This is
bear country,
food and food related items must be
stored properly.
See the official web site
link below for fees, opening and closing
dates.
