Vermilion Campground
Alberta Provincial Park.
Vermilion Campground is located on
the East side of the Town of
Vermilion
which is approximately
192km
East of the City of
Edmonton.
Vermilion is not to be confused with
Vermilion
Lakes near Banff. The Campground has 111 sites with reservations
available by calling 1-877-537-2757. This
campground offers campsites for both
tents and larger RV's, group
camping, picnic shelters, public
phone, flush
toilets, showers, water,
power, fire wood, picnic tables,
horseshoe pits, sani dump,
wading pool and play grounds.
Vermilion Campground has a park like
setting and is well maintained.
There are several hiking trails and
a paved path for biking or
rollerblading that run through the
Vermilion River Valley. The Lakeside
Trail along the reservoir offers
opportunities to view Canada Geese,
Great Blue Herons, shorebirds and
various waterfowl. If you have a
canoe or kayak you'll find Vermilion
Lake makes for a very nice float.
The
6.3km
lake was created by a dam on the
Vermilion River. Vermilion River
offers
Northern Pike,
Walleye
and
Perch
fishing, you'll need a
fishing
license to try your luck.
The Town of
Vermilion
is one of the nicest Towns found in
Alberta and it can be explored in an
afternoon. There is also a local
farmers market
on Tuesdays. Numerous field sport
events are held here during the
summer months and there is a Golf
Course plus a driving range located
close to the campground. You can
also find several Rodeos throughout
the year. It's interesting to note
as you drive by the Nearby
Lakeland
College, that it is the
only inter-provincial college that
offers education to both Alberta and
Saskatchewan residents. I found it
amusing how the college named all
it's buildings using the Greek
alphabet. Night skies here rank # 4
on the
Bortle Scale.
See the official web site

dates.
