Wapiti
Campground Jasper National
Park.
Wapiti
Campground is located in the Rocky
Mountains
5.4K south of the
Jasper
townsite
across the highway from the
Whistlers
Campground. This campground
is one of the largest with 644 sites.
Large campgrounds like this are fun
to explore with a bicycle and your
close enough to ride into the town
of
Jasper. The
campground offers electricity, hot showers, flush
toilets, sani
dumps and interpretive programs. Fire wood is available for
use in the camp kitchens and camp
sites.
This is
bear country,
food and food related items must be
stored properly. Expect crowds of
people here during peak season. The
Wapiti campground has more trees and
vegetation and offers more privacy
between campsites then the nearby
Whistlers
Campground. You can walk
along the Athabasca River that
borders to the east. It also makes
for a perfect base camp if you want to
spend a few days exploring
Jasper
and the local area.
Patricia Lake, Pyramid Lake, Lac
Beauvert, Maligne Lake,
Maligne
Canyon, Medicine Lake,
Mount Edith
Cavell, Lake Edith, Lake Annette,
Hanging Valley, Jasper Park Lodge
and
Miette Hot Springs are all close
to here. The Jasper town
site is very small, you can easily
walk through the entire town in a
morning or an afternoon outing. More on
Jasper
here.
There are a few small hikes located
near this campground and a
3K
hike or bike
trail leading into
Jasper,
this trail can be found near the Ice
Fields Parkway highway.
The
Jasper Tramway
up Whistlers mountain is
a few minutes away. You can ride the
Tram almost to the top of Mount
Whistler, then hike another
200 Meters
to the
summit.
Views from here are outstanding. On
a clear day you can see Mount Robson
(3954
Meters) to the west, the
highest peak in the Canadian
Rockies.
Mount Edith Cavell can be
viewed to the south. Don't forget
your binoculars.
Miette Hot
Springs Pool,
Sulphur
Skyline Hike,
Opal Hills
Hike,

Cavell Hike,
