Area.
Chain
Lakes Campground is open year
round and located
109km
southwest of Calgary in the Willow
Creek Valley between the Porcupine
foothills and the Rocky Mountains.
There are 122 campsites with picnic
tables and fire pits. Most of the
sites are surrounded by willow
bushes creating a wind break and
privacy. Some of
the sites are located on or near the
lake. This campground has water,
toilets, power, refuse containers,
fire wood, community kitchens, playground, boat
launch, beach, small concession
store and sani dump. Chain lakes is
excellent for small water craft (12km
limit), wind surfing, swimming and
fishing. The reservoir was created
for irrigation and is approximately
10km
long with the dam on the southeast
end. This area offers some of the
nicest views of Alberta's rolling
foothills that meet the Livingstone
Mountain range locate in the Rocky
Mountains. The reservoir offers good
fly fishing for Rainbow Trout and is
stocked annually, you'll need a
fishing
license to try out your
luck. Children will love it here,
they can play on the beach and the open
grassy areas then visit the ice cream
shop that is open in the summer
months. The grassy area next to the
Lake is excellent for astronomers
and star gazers. Night skies here
rank # 2 on the
Bortle Scale
and the road
leading to the campground is paved.
The
Indian Graves
Campground is located
approximately
21km
to the south east.
This is
bear country,
food and food related items must be
stored properly.
