Crandell Campground Waterton National
Park.
Crandell Campground is a nice campground located
in the Blakiston Valley on the Red
Rock Parkway out of
the Waterton Valley wind corridor.
You'll appreciate being out of the
wind. Waterton National Park can be
a windy place, several large
electricity generating wind farms
are located just outside the park.
The highway into Crandell Campground
shows a classic transition from
foothills to Rocky Mountain terrain.
It's always interesting to view
grasslands leading to deciduas trees
then leading to coniferous trees.
The town of Waterton is only 20
minutes from Crandell Campground
which is worth the trip. Gas (No
diesel fuel located within the park)
and limited groceries can be
obtained in the Town of Waterton.
See the
Waterton Towne
site campground for more
information on the town. This
campground offers campsites for both
tents and larger RV's. There are a
129 unserviced campsites, piped
water stations, kitchen shelters with
wood burning cook
stoves, flush toilets, food storage,
recycling bins, and a dump station. National
Park campgrounds tend to fill
quickly and are usually full for the
night by early afternoon. Several
hikes including Crandell Lake are
located nearby along with the famous
Red Rock Canyon trail. Firewood is available when
purchasing a daily fire permit. As
you can see in the pictures below
Mule deer can be seen throughout the
campground.
This is
bear country,
food and food related items must be
stored properly.
See the official web site
for fees, opening and closing
dates.
