Protection Mountain Campground Banff National
Park.
This campground is located in the
Rocky Mountains on the Bow
Valley Parkway,
48km north of Banff
and
17km south of Lake Louise in
Banff National Park. Quick access to the
parkway when heading north can be found at
Castle
Mountain Junction on the Trans
Canada Highway. This campground is
better suited for tents and small
RV's. The total
number of campsites is 83, all
located in a grassy, wooded area.
There are flush toilets, piped cold
water, sheltered communal kitchens
with wood burning cook stoves. Fire pits are
located in each spot, fire wood is
available with the purchase of a fire
permit. A small store, gas bar and
restaurant are located south of the
Campground at the
Castle Mountain junction. Lake
Louise, to the north, also offers gas,
groceries, restaurants and world
class hotels. Beautiful
Johnston
Canyon,
Boom Lake,
Bourgeau Lake,
Rockbound Lake,
Taylor Lake,
O'Brien Lake
and
Silverton
Falls
are also located near
here. Protection
Mountain campground spots are
available on a first come first
serve basis only. National Park
campgrounds tend to fill quickly and
are usually full for the night by
early afternoon.
This is
bear country,
food and food related items must be
stored properly.
