Location:
West side of the
Icefields Parkway 88kms north of Lake Louise and 28kms south of the Columbia
Icefields. Banff National Park.
Description:
Rampart Creek campground contains
50 campsites. Amenities include
sheltered camp kitchens with wood burning cook stoves, garbage containers,
recycling bins, potable water, dry toilets, picnic tables and fire
pits. Fire wood is available when
purchasing a fire permit. The campground consists of 4 loops including a walk in
tent section. Two of the loops contain sharp turns edged with large trees
showing evidence of trailer scrapes. If your RV is over 8ms (25') it may be wise
to walk the loops first. Several of the campsites back onto the north
Saskatchewan river with open views
towards the valley. The cliffs on
the east face of Mount Wilson
located across the
highway contain some of the best ice
climbs found in the world. In the
winter months all the small water
falls you see on the cliff
face freeze into irresistible play
grounds for ice climbers. The famous Weeping Wall, Polar Circus and Ice
nine waterfalls are located within
a few
kilometers
of here.
The
Weeping Wall is best viewed in
the winter months as the entire
cliff face freezes over. During winter campground closure climbers can stay at Rampart Creek hostel
located across the highway. Night skies here rank # 1 on the
Bortle Scale. See the official web site
link below for campfround fees, opening and closing
dates.
