Consolation Lakes Banff National
Park.
Consolation Lakes is located
3km
South East of
Moraine Lake. The trailhead
is located next to the
Moraine Lake
parking lot. This hike is very easy
with little elevation gain, allow
one hour to reach the lake shore.
Both lakes are crystal clear with large boulders
on the West shore of the lakes.
These boulders are from a rock
slide off Mount Babel. Views of the
hanging Glacier situated on Mount
Quadra are beautiful. In late June
you can watch and hear snow and ice
break off the glacier and mountain
tops. This is one of the easiest
hikes found in the area and is very
popular. Expect lots of people on
the trail. Once you reach the first
lower lake
the going gets awkward because of
the boulders but It's well worth
the effort to keep on going to the
second lake. If you're real hardy
you can keep going past the lakes
and over Consolation pass to Taylor
Lake. Several
must do hikes are located in this
area. Trail heads to Consolation
Lakes,
Larch Valley,
Sentinel Pass,
Plain of Six
Glaciers,
Lake Louise
Tea House, Mount Temple (Serious Scramble not a
Hike) and Eiffel Lake are all
located near the
Moraine Lake parking lot. Lake
Louise is also located a few
Kilometers
to the North West. The nearest
campground is the
Lake Louise
Campground. Moraine Lake Road is not
plowed in the winter and is an
excellent cross country ski in.
Photos below were taken in late
June.
You are in
Bear country.
