Elbow Falls Picnic Area, Kananaskis

Elbow
Falls is open all year long located 35 minutes West of
the
City of Calgary.
This area is a favorite picnic spot
that fills quickly due to it's close
proximately to the
City of Calgary.
There are lots of picnic tables
located along the Elbow River that
can be accessed by a paved trail
leading to Elbow Falls. Several easy to moderate
hikes can be found near the Falls.
Prairie Mountain trail head is
located just across the road. The
summit of Prairie Mountain can be
reached in about 2 hours. Another short easy, 1.25 hour hike up
Powder Face
Ridge offers a classic
transitional view, prairies to
mountains, with the city of Calgary
just visible on the Eastern horizon.
Another is
Nahahi Ridge,
starting at the West end of the
Little Elbow campground. This hike offers
exceptional views of Mount Glasgow
and Mount Romulus, allow 3 hours
return. You can also bring a
mountain bike and ride the
Powderface trail or ride around the
Little Elbow, Big Elbow
loop.
The
loop
offers beautiful views of Mount
Glasgow, Mount Cornwall, Outlaw and
Banded Peaks, Mount Romulus and
Mount Tombstone. Allow 6 to 8 hours
to complete the
loop
on bike. There are also nice easy
walks on groomed trails along the
Little Elbow River. There is a lot to explore
here.

campground,
Little Elbow and
Paddy's Flat
campground are located
just East of here.
Forgetmenot
Pond day use picnic area
located nearby
is a short get away from Calgary and makes for a nice days outing.
Several picnic tables can also be found
at
Forgetmenot
Pond, the pond is stocked with
Rainbow Trout. You'll need a
fishing
license to try out your luck.
