Description

Trailhead: Park at the Athabasca Falls parking lot on highway 93A approximately 30kms south of Jasper in Jasper National Park.

Description:  The waterfall is 23m high and 18m wide. This is a very popular tourist attraction and very crowded during the summer months. To avoid the crowds I would suggest arriving at the parking lot early morning or early evening. There are several safe lookouts located near and across the other side of the falls. Do not leave the designated paths or climb over the guard rails.

Several individuals have underestimated just how slippery the rock ledges are here and have fallen to their deaths, many while trying to take that perfect picture. The paved trail leads across a wide bridge to numerous lookouts on the south side of the falls. It also leads down several steps towards the bottom of the falls where you can see earlier erosion of past waterfalls and the Athabasca River.

Falls are beautiful however the crowds make it difficult to enjoy.
