Location/Description

Location: Located on the Ice Fields Parkway near the Columbia Icefields 106kms south of Jasper and approximately 112kms north of Lake Louise. Jasper National Park

 

DescriptionThis campground contains 33 tent only sites. Amenities include, dry toilets, camp kitchen with wood stove, potable water, fire pits and picnic tables. Fire wood is available for use in the camp kitchen and camp sites. Columbia Icefields campground is mostly used by mountaineers who are climbing in the area.

The campground is beautiful and possibly the nicest tents only vehicle access campground in the national parks. Views from the campground are stunning. If you want to spend a few days exploring the area, it’s location makes for an excellent base camp.

Mount Athabasca, Mount Andromeda, Snow Dome, Mount Kitchener, Mount Wilcox and the Athabasca Glacier are all located near here. Parkers Ridge located a few kms East is a short hike with outstanding views of the Saskatchewan Glacier. The trail located behind the campground beside Wilcox Creek leads up the ridge towards Wilcox Pass and provides unforgettable views of Mount Athabasca, Mount Andromeda, Athabasca Glacier and Snow Dome. Big Horn Sheep and Mountain Goats can also be seen throughout the area.

There are several classic hikes located nearby. The Wilcox Creek RV and tents campground is only 1km east. Night skies here rank #1-2 on the Bortle ScaleThis is bear country, food and food related items must be stored properly.
