Description

Trailhead: Park at the Indian Oils day use area 30kms west of Turner Valley Between Sandy McNabb Campground and Blue Rock Campground. Sheep River Provincial Park Kananaskis Country.

Description: This is an easy hike along the top of the gorge for as long as you like or part of the Bluerock Indian Oils 18.5km circuit which is considered difficult. The circuit route is popular with Mountain bikers.

Follow the trail along the west side of the Sheep River gorge that offers excellent views of the foothills and Rocky Mountains. Views of the river pools and eddies along the Sheep River are beautiful and very inviting. To bad the water is to cold for swimming. The Sheep River runs crystal clear and is home to wild Cutthroat Trout, Bull Trout and Rainbow Trout. Check regulations for catch and release. Deer, elk, bear and bighorn sheep are often seen in the area. Sheep River Falls is located west of here and worth the hike or short drive. Note: Gravel road access only.
