Location/Description

Location: 173kms south of Calgary. 31kms east of Vulcan on road #542. West shore of Lake McGregor Reservoir southern Alberta.

Description: This campground contains 100 campsites for both RV’s and tents. Some of the sites are surrounded by willow bushes creating a wind break and some privacy however most are located on open grass with a few choice sites next to the lake.

Amenities include, playground, fire pits, dry toilets, water, garbage bins, boat launch, and picnic tables. Lake McGregor Reservoir is excellent for, water skiing, wind surfing and fishing. In 1920 the reservoir was created for irrigation and is approximately 22kms long with it’s dam at the north end. Fisherman will find strong populations of Walleye, Yellow Perch, Lake Whitefish and Northern Pike. You’ll need a fishing license to try your luck.

It’s close location to Calgary makes it a favorite for boaters. The boat launch is well constructed but poorly located. Strong cross winds blow at the boat launch making it difficult to load a boat and often requires one to enter the water to prevent the boat from blowing sideways over the trailer wheels. The grassy knoll next to the campground is excellent for astronomers and star gazers.

Night skies here rank #2-3 on the Bortle ScaleThis is bear country, food and food related items must be stored properly.

Good fishing in a clear lake with no algae issues. Campground is mostly on grass with a few located on the lakeshore.
