Location/Description

Location: Northwest shore of Pigeon Lake 105kms southwest of Edmonton Alberta.

Description: Zeiner campground has a total of 123 campsites nicely suited for both RV’s and tents. Amenities include group camping, handicap sites, beach, playgrounds, picnic shelters, concession, showers, water, fire pits, toilets, picnic tables, refuse containers, boat launch, fish cleaning station and firewood available for sale. Golf course, shopping center and farmers market are also located nearby.

Campsites are a nice mix of open grass and well treed by aspen and spruce trees that provide good privacy. There are several nice sites located near the lake. This campground is good for families with young children. The campground is well maintained but often very crowded and unfortunately the lake is polluted. Swimming is not advised during blue-green algae blooms. Due to it’s close proximity to Edmonton and Leduc it fills fast on weekends and one of the most heavily used recreational lakes in Alberta, especially for power boating.

Pigeon Lake is part of the Battle River drainage basin and has an approximate total surface area of 96.7sqkms with an average depth of 6.2ms, maximum depth of 9.1ms. Pigeon Lake Provincial Park also attracts a large variety of migrating waterfowl and is a great place for birders. Fisherman may catch walleye, northern pike and lake whitefish.

Night skies here are ink black and rank #5 on the Bortle Scale.

Nicely kept campsites close to Edmonton.

Sadly this park has really gone downhill in the past few years, almost entirely due to lack of enforcement by AB Parks. My most recent stay – other people’s dogs running through the campsite, campers on both sides hacking trees for firewood.
